ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international consultancy, design, engineering and management services company, today announced that its Brazilian subsidiary ARCADIS Logos as part of a consortium of companies has signed a major contract with Brazilian based mining company VALE to provide project management services for the construction of a new coal port terminal in the Nacala Bay, in northern Mozambique. The contract signed with VALE Logística África Limitada, a VALE group company incorporated in Mozambique, has a total value of US$47 million for 36 months. Work will include consulting services for project planning and control, detail design coordination, procurement support and construction coordination & supervision, including safety and environmental issues.

 

The project, providing logistical solutions in support of the doubling of production capacity at the VALE Moatize coal mine from 11 Mtpy to 22 Mtpy, is part of the Nacala Corridor Project. Once in operation, the Nacala coal port will feature 18 Mtpy of installed capacity, a 29 km long access railroad, an on shore coal stockyard and an off shore terminal.

 

ARCADIS Logos holds a 60% participation in the contract, as part of the consortium that provides consulting services, and which further includes Consulgal Consultores de Engenharia e Gestão S.A. from Portugal, and local consultant Secon Serviços de Engenharia e Consultores Ltda. It is expected that a team of 115 people will be working at the jobsite at the peak of the construction phase.
