Gouda - Imtech (IM-AE, technical services provider in and outside Europe) announces that at the end of 2011 it has been commissioned by Finalsa S.A. for the realisation of all technical solutions in one of the most advanced waste processing plants in the world. This plant will be built near Warsaw in Poland and is capable of processing approximately 120,000 tons of waste (MSW, Municipal Solid Waste: organic waste from residential, commercial and industrial sources) per year - more than 400 tons of waste per day. Ecology and energy efficiency are key elements here. The waste processing plant is not only completely self-sufficient in energy, but also produces extra energy, residual fuels and recyclable materials.

René van der Bruggen, CEO Imtech: 'Imtech is the market leader in energy efficiency in Germany and Poland. The majority of our orders are characterized by the presence of a component of energy efficiency and or energy management. The focus is among others on sustainable industrial production plants. Waste processing plants are one of the Imtech specialisms. The new order in Poland and previous recent orders for energy-efficient waste processing plants in for instance Germany (production of renewable fuels from mechanical-biological waste treatment of residual waste in the regions Emmendingen and Ortenau), the Netherlands (an energy-efficient waste processing plant for HVC Dordrecht) and in the UK (an energy-efficient waste processing plant in Plymouth for MVV O&M, a subsidiary of MVV Energie AG) show that Imtech is leading in this segment in Europe. '

15% of total MSW waste Warsaw
The city of Warsaw produces about 800,000 tons of MSW per year, so Imtech's new waste processing plant will process 15% of the total amount of waste produced by the nearly 2 million residents of the Polish capital.

Unique Imtech technology
Imtech's advanced processing technology - specifically used mechanical and biological process technology solutions - enables the waste processing plant to obtain a high level of recyclable materials and a high level of energy resources in the form of biogas and residual fuels. This gas is produced from digestion of organic waste using innovative anaerobic digestion during the fermentation process. This gas will be transferred to power generators which will produce double the amount of energy required to power the entire facility. Additionally, by creating a tightly concealed process environment, the risk of odors or pollutants emission is minimized. To further secure the emissions level close to zero, the waste processing plant incorporates also high-tech air treatment systems for the process exhausts and also for treating air from the technology halls. At the same time the new waste processing plant drastically minimizes the total amount of waste deposited in Polish landfills to a level that exceeds the EU directive 1999/31/EG requirements for the year 2020 by a great margin. That is why the new energy-efficient waste processing plant in Poland is one of the most advanced waste processing plants in the world. It meets all current and future known legal requirements for environmental care, waste processing, and recycling levels and emissions levels.
