Pöyry's Energy business group has been awarded an Owner's Engineering Services contract by the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) for the Ras Az Zawr Power and Desalination Plant. Pöyry's assignments include assisting the client in the review of the EPC contractor's detail design, the inspection of workshop tests. Pöyry will also execute site supervision of the Contractor's construction and erection as well as the commissioning and testing for the project. The total value of Pöyry's assignments amount to about EUR 15 million over the next 4.5 years. The order value has been booked into the second quarter 2011 order stock.
The contract includes 2650MW Combined Cycle Project and 1.025 million-m3/day Desalination Plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Plant is configured in the following arrangement: five 600 MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Blocks and two 220 MW Single Cycle Gas Turbines (SCGT) units along with Desalination Plant consisting of 8 MSF Units (plus RO Units) capable of producing 1.025 million m3/dy principally exported to the Kingdom's capital - Riyadh. The project forms a key component in the new Industrial Region, Ras Az Zawr, and is located along the shore of the Arabian Gulf approximately 75 km North of Al Jubail.
