Norilsk Nickel has licenses for two Outotec® Flash Smelting Furnaces in Nadezhda smelter which has been in operation since 1981. Changes in the raw material base and more demanding requirements for longer campaign life has led into the decision to modernize the nickel smelting furnace.
Outotec's delivery includes engineering, supply of a new Flash Smelting Furnace including modern proprietary equipment, advanced process control and cooling monitoring systems. Long-term technical service agreement will be separately negotiated during the delivery phase.
"We are very committed to the decades long partnership with Norilsk Nickel in developing together their copper and nickel operations in Russia. Having designed and delivered their two flash smelting and electric furnaces, in addition to various mineral processing solutions, we have the required technologies and process expertise for the modernization of the smelter to meet today's and future production requirements of Norilsk Nickel", says Robin Lindahl, head of Outotec's Metals, Energy & Water business area.
