The PET bottle represents a very popular form of packaging, available not only in Poland but also worldwide. It is used primarily to transport and store beverages. What is the production process of such bottles? Are specialised machines used for it? Read on to find out more!
PET – what is that?
PET stands for ‘polyethylene terephthalate’ and it is a kind of plastic. This material was invented in Great Britain in 1941 and is now used in the textile and glassware industry. PET comes in granules which must be processed before they can be turned into a product such as a bottle. This material is quite resistant to acids, fats and other similar substances, so it is very often used in the food industry.
What are the advantages of PET bottles?
There is no denying that the popularity of these bottles is the result of their unquestionable advantages. First of all, PET bottles are soft and light; they are much safer to transport than glass. PET packaging is comparatively easier to transport thanks to its simple design. It is also easy to carry.
PET bottles are also characterised by mechanical strength, which is very important when filling. The most important advantage of this material is that it can be recycled and reused.
PET bottle – how is it made?
PET bottles are used on a daily basis, but few people are aware of how they are made. They are produced by processing a semi-finished product known as ‘PET preform’. It is heated to a high temperature, roughly 260-300°C, and then becomes a liquid mass. Interestingly, the mass then enters the so-called capper in the blow moulding machine, where the blowing process takes place and the bottle gains its final shape.
Blow-moulding machines are a great type of equipment, enabling a much quicker manufacture of PET bottles. A decent blow moulding furnace can produce between 2,000 and 30,000 packs or bottles in an hour, which is really some impressive performance. Therefore, it is a good idea to fit your factory with modern blow moulding machines that will be able to create the most innovative PET bottle shapes.
What kind of blow moulding machines are worth buying?
Two-stage blow moulding machines are certainly worth a try. Their work speeds up the production process. As soon as the bottle receives its final shape, it is automatically transferred to the filling machine using air conveyors.
If you are looking for the right blowing machine for your business, we suggest you purchase modern equipment for PET bottle production from SMF. Interestingly, all machines are made in Poland and sold in as many as 80 countries! SMF’s innovative two-stage blow moulding machines make it possible to significantly speed up the production of PET bottles, while maintaining high product.
Summary
PET bottles are made from ‘PET preforms’ using modern blow moulding machines. The semi-finished product is heated and then formed into the desired shape. SMF is a recommended distributor of modern machines. If you are a PET producer and you are looking for a modern machine, we recommend you buy the SMF machine. You will certainly not be disappointed.
