Certified, modular hardware for the Next Generation of EV Chargers

Karlsruhe Metropolitan Area, May 7th, 2025 - Pionix GmbH, the open-source pioneer behind the EVerest project, today announced the launch of ChargeBridge, a modular and pre-certified hardware solution that empowers manufacturers to develop smarter, faster, and more flexible EV charging controllers. It is designed to be operated with BaseCamp, Pionix’ charging station software based on EVerest. The product debuts at Power2Drive Europe 2025 in Munich. Designed for the era of software-defined charging, ChargeBridge connects the world of high-level charging-software with the safety-critical hardware required to manage EV connections - all within a compact, plug-and-play module.

“We built ChargeBridge because we saw the same problem repeated across the industry: hardware teams spending months solving identical low-level challenges, instead of focusing on what really matters – innovation, user experience, and speed,” said Marco Möller, CEO and Co- Founder of Pionix. “This is our answer: a ready-made, certifiable foundation that lets anyone build a reliable, future-proof charging controller – in record time.”

A New Architecture for EV Charging

Inspired by the centralized computing approach of modern vehicles, ChargeBridge introduces a clean separation between safety logic and software logic: The safety core is encapsulated in a pre-certified hardware module, responsible for control circuits, power path management and vehicle communication (e.g., ISO 15118). On the other hand, the charging intelligence runs on an external, Linux based system - powered by Pionix’s BaseCamp. This setup enables manufacturers to iterate faster, reduce wiring complexity, and stay flexible - while ensuring full compliance with international standards. BaseCamp orchestrates the overall charging process, handles communication with backend systems and vehicles, and delegates safety-critical execution to the ChargeBridge module, enabling safe and efficient EV charging.

Key Benefits

  • Plug & Play Integration: USB or Ethernet connection to any Linux System-on-Module (SoM)
  • Certified and Safe: Built-in safety functions and IEC-compliant design
  • Highly Modular: Easy switch between AC, DC and bidirectional charging setups
  • Fast Time-to-Market:  Includes  reference  designs,  documentation  and  maintained firmware
  • Includes BaseCamp Charging Software: Includes a BaseCamp license with lifelong updates
  • Engineered for Speed: Eliminates months of redundant hardware development with a ready-to-integrate module

Accelerating the Industry, not Competing with It

Pionix emphasizes that ChargeBridge is not a move away from its open-source roots, but a logical next step: “ChargeBridge is here to amplify what open-source software enables”, added Tim Valbert, VP Product Management. “We are not competing with hardware vendors - we are giving them a head start. This is a building block for the entire ecosystem.”

ChargeBridge will be officially presented at Power2Drive Europe 2025 in Munich from May 7th to

9th at the Pionix booth B6.279. Interested developers and OEMs can get hands-on with live demos, join deep-dive tech sessions, and access the full spec sheet via

To continue the conversation beyond Power2Drive, PIONIX will also host a live webinar on May

27, 2025. Developers and industry professionals are invited to take a deeper look at ChargeBridge and explore its potential for shaping the next generation of EV chargers.
