Neste Oil's plan to modernize its power plant at Porvoo progresses - environmental impact assessment report completed
The environmental impact assessment (EIA) report on Neste Oil's project to modernize its power plant at the Porvoo refinery has been completed. The project covers the company's plan to replace the older generating facilities at the refinery with new ones and enable it to comply with future emission and energy efficiency requirements. The new units, which could be built on a phased basis, are expected to be fully operational by the end of 2023. The Uusimaa Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment acted as the official agency for the EIA process.
The EIA report contains details on the various alternatives proposed as part of the project and an evaluation of their environmental impact. Three alternatives were reviewed in terms of their potential impact. The report indicates that all three alternatives have positive environmental impact, as the renewal of the power plant would mainly reduce the current emissions. The complete report in Finnish can be consulted at Neste Oil's web site.
Comments and views on the EIA report can be lodged between now and 5 May, and should be sent in writing to the Uusimaa Centre of Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.
